The colour tells you how urgent it is
A red light means a serious problem: stop safely and don't continue driving until it has been checked. Yellow means something isn't working properly and the vehicle should be inspected as soon as possible, but you can usually still reach a workshop.
Red: stop
- Coolant temperature: the engine is overheating
- Battery: the alternator isn't charging, the vehicle will soon stop
- Steering wheel with an exclamation mark: "Steering malfunction"
- Oil pressure or the brake system
Yellow: book an inspection
- Engine warning light (check engine)
- ESP or ABS
- Tyre pressure
- Transmission fault or limp mode (see TCU)
Many lights at once
When several warning lights come on at the same time, there is often a single cause: a weak battery, a power supply problem or a communication problem between control units. Using computer diagnostics we read the fault memory of all control units and find the real cause.
